Most of us don’t have the time or patience to curl our eyelashes in the morning, much less put on mascara. It comes as no surprise that eyelash extensions have gotten more popular in recent years.

But with the variety of lash extensions on the market, how do you know which is the most suitable?

What are the common types of lash extensions?

Silk, synthetic and faux-mink lash extensions are the ones most commonly found on Vanitee. The prices can range from $55 for a natural look to $120 for a more dramatic one.

What are the lash extensions made of?

Synthetic extensions are made from a polished, acrylic material. This makes it the firmest out of the three – which allows them to hold the curls well. Such extensions are more suited for those with naturally denser eylashes because they can be heavy.

Silk lashes are finer and more flexible than synthetic ones, and remain longer on your eyelashes simply because of its weight.

Real mink lashes involve mink farming, which is not cruelty free! However, our artists on Vanitee use faux mink lashes made from a mix of silk and polysynthetic fibres.

To determine which curl suits you best (e/g for a round face, upturned lashes are more important than long ones), speak to the beautician! Our lash experts on Vanitee are more than happy to answer your questions.

How often do you need to get your lashes redone?

Lash extensions usually last for as long as your hair growth cycle, which can range from six to eight weeks. However, every strand of hair has a different growth cycle so touchups every two weeks are recommended.

What happens after I get my lash extensions?

Avoid water for the first 24 hours! (Pro tip: Use a pair of goggles when bathing) Thereafter, ensure that you don’t use oil-based cleaners as they will dissolve the glue at a faster rate. Stay away from waterproof mascara as well because it might pull on your lashes during removal. After all, you won’t have to put any mascara when you’ve got those gorgeous lashes!
