Nails Makeover: Save Your Bitten Nails

Nail educator, Jaclyn Ngo (@LuxeWomen) gave us an overview of the 7 THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO TO YOUR NAILS. Some of the tips she mentioned include ‘never bite your nails, never peel off your gel polish, and never leave your polishes on for too long’.

But what if nail biting is a habit that is seriously hard to kick? What if you have an important event coming up and you need to cover up those hideous nails?

Save your nails with nail extensions

Nail extensions give artificial length to the natural nail. Not only do nail extensions help you kick the bad habit of nail biting, it also helps to encourage nail growth. These are the different types of nail extensions available in the market:

1.Gel sculptured extensions

Gel extensions are usually less durable than acrylic extensions. Usually, the only way to remove the extension is by filing it off. The process can be tedious if customers were to remove it by themselves. Therefore, a visit to the salon is required to remove it.

2.Acrylic sculptured extensions

Acrylics are very strong, durable and can last for a very long time. If you are thinking of removing the nail extensions on your own without visiting the salon, acrylics can be soaked off the same way you remove gel polishes. Simply soak your fingers in acetone and slowly scrape the acrylic away after it melts.

With badly bitten nails, this customer went to seek help to save her from the embarrassment before her internship interview.

A layer of natural coloured acrylic extensions is applied and buffed to the desired length and shape.

Seeking for a natural look, the customer requested for a natural nude shade gel polish to look more professional.

3.Tip extensions

Tip extensions are not as durable as sculptured extensions as the tips are made of plastic. Thus, it is prone to corrosion when in contact with chemicals such as acetone.

Which is better?

If you have badly bitten nails, it is recommended to get an acrylic sculptured extension. Acrylics give more strength to the nail since bitten nails are often weak and thin. Bitten nails are short and it eats into the flesh of the nail bed. Thus, doing gel extensions on the flesh will be painful and the final result may turn out weird as well.

With such a short nail bed, pasting plastic nail tips may make the nail appear shorter with weird proportions just like this:

Risks

Nail extensions can be your worst nightmare if the nail artist does not practice proper hygiene. Unclean tools can lead to serious fungal infection. It can also make you sick as they trap bacteria. Application of acrylic nails involves the use of strong chemicals which may cause an allergic reaction to some people.

Engaging trustworthy and professional nail artists are essential to eliminate those risks. In Vanitee, we have the best team of nail artists that ensures quality to all our customers!
